Canada PGP 2025 Intake Opens in Late July
1. Intake Timeline & Details
- Invitation to Apply (ITA) Period: Begins July 28, 2025, and will run for about two weeks, with emails sent randomly via lottery.
- Number of Invitations Issued: ~17,860 ITAs sent from the 2020 Interest-to-Sponsor pool.
- Target Applications Accepted: IRCC aims to receive up to 10,000 complete applications.
- Deadline: Invited applicants must submit their full application by October 9, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. ET—no exceptions.
⚠️ Reminder: Only individuals who submitted an Interest-to-Sponsor form in 2020 and haven’t yet received an invitation (between 2020–2024) are eligible in this cycle.
2. Application Process (if invited)
- You’ll receive an invitation via the email you used in 2020 – check your inbox, including spam/junk folders.
- You’ll need to complete two forms:
- Sponsorship Application (by you, the sponsor)
- Permanent Residence Application (by the parent/grandparent)
Both must be submitted through the Permanent Residence (PR) Portal (or Representative Portal if using a paid consultant).
- IRCC will assess both eligibility and completeness; typical processing times range 12–24 months.
3. Sponsorship Eligibility & Obligations
- You must be at least 18 years old, a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or registered under the Indian Act, and reside in Canada.
- Sponsors agree to a sponsorship undertaking—20 years in most provinces, 10 years in Quebec—committing to financial responsibility for sponsored family members.(
- You and any co-signing spouse/common-law partner must meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) for each of the three taxation years preceding application: 2024, 2023, 2022.

4. If You Don’t Receive an Invitation
Consider applying via the Super Visa:
- Valid for multiple entries, with stays of up to 5 years per entry, extendable by 2 years from within Canada. Valid up to 10 years overall.
- New minimum gross income thresholds took effect July 29, 2025, increased about 3.9% over 2024.
The Super Visa is a strong alternative for those not invited in 2025 or who submitted no 2020 form.
5. Why Canada is Reusing the 2020 Pool
Due to demand and pandemic-related delays, IRCC continues drawing from the Interest-to-Sponsor submissions dating back to 2020, to address long-standing backlog fairly. They will not open a new intake form in 2025.
