Super Visa – An Opportunity to Reunite With Your Sons and Grandsons in Canada
The drawing for the PGP 2022 lottery is now concluded. If you did not have the good fortune to acquire a PGP ITA this year, you may want to think about applying for a Super Visa so that you can bring your parents and grandparents to Canada for a period of up to seven(5+2) years.
The drawing for the much sought after invitation to apply (ITA) to the 2022 Parents and Grandparents program has come to an end.
This year, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) sent out 23,100 invitations to apply (ITAs), with the expectation that they will get 15,000 applications in their entirety.
Please be informed that even if you were not one of the fortunate 23,100 sponsors to receive an ITA this year, you are still able to bring your parent(s) and/or grandparent(s) to Canada through the Super Visa program, even if you were not one of the fortunate 23,100 sponsors.
About the program known as the Super Visa: requirements for eligibility and the application procedure:
The following is a rundown of the fundamental requirements that must be met in order to qualify for the Super Visa.
To begin, sponsors are required to:
- Have reached the age of majority (18 years old)
- Be a citizen of Canada or a permanent residence (PR)
- Have been living in Canada both at the time of the application and when the parents or grandparents are anticipated to arrive
- Have a stable financial situation and can financially take care of their parents and grandparents during their stay in Canada.
The people who are being sponsored to travel to Canada must meet the following requirements in order to enter the country:
- They must apply for a super visa from a country other than Canada
- They must possess a letter of invitation from the child or grandchild who is sponsoring them while they are living in Canada
- Proof of parental relationship with the kid or grandchild, such as a birth certificate that specifies the sponsored individual as the parent. Proof that the child or grandchild fulfills the Low-Income Cut-Off (LICO) minimum.
- Proof that the child or grandchild’s visa was printed outside of Canada (wait for visa office instructions)
- Be admitted to Canada (including not being criminally or medically inadmissible)
- Take an immigration medical exam.
- Have medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company that is valid for at least one year from the date of entry, has at least $100,000 in emergency coverage and proves that the medical insurance has been paid in full.
- Have a signed letter from your child or grandchild who invites you to Canada that includes the following three things.
- They must be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or PR.
- An assurance that you would be provided with financial help for the duration of your trip.
- A rundown of the members of this individual’s home, along with their respective ages.
- A copy of this individual’s citizenship or permanent residency card, if they are a Canadian citizen or resident.
Advantages of obtaining a Super Visa
The benefits of obtaining a Super Visa are mostly attributable to the fact that it is valid for an extended period of time.
The Super Visa is a type of temporary residence visa (TRV) that allows the sponsored parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or PRs to visit their Canadian family members for up to five years at a time without being required to renew their visas. In addition, sponsored persons who already possess a Super Visa have the ability to seek for a visa extension that will allow them to continue their stay in Canada as a tourist for up to two more years. Finally, the Super Visa (obtained through visa extensions) makes it possible for parents and grandparents to visit Canada many times throughout the course of a period of up to seven years.
Prior to the 4th of July, 2022, the program only permitted sponsored individuals access into Canada for a maximum of two years at a time, but it has since been expanded to include the longer Super Visa periods that have been outlined above. Additional information regarding the timeline is as follows: Applicants for the Super Visa who entered Canada with a valid visa before July 4 will not have an extension added to the length of time they are permitted to stay in the country unless they leave Canada before July 4 and re-enter the country after this date. This would create the possibility for a border patrol agent to grant the individual an extended period of time to stay in the country (up to five years).
Alternately, applicants who are currently within Canada have the option of submitting an application to extend their Super Visa for up to two years more.
Applicants who fall into one of the three categories listed below will be eligible to benefit from the extended length of stay (up to five years at a time).
- People who submitted their applications for the Super Visa on or after July 4, 2022
- Applicants who have been given approval for their applications after July 4, 2022
- People whose applications were accepted before July 4, 2022, provided they entered Canada after that date
Additional advantages of Canada’s Super Visa program include the following:
- The availability of visas all throughout the year
- The opportunity for persons who have been sponsored to travel freely between their country of residence and Canada without the need to worry about having to reapply for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) (for those in countries that require a TRV for entry to Canada)
- Proof that they have received a letter allowing them to enter Canada for up to two years at a time (for those in countries that do not require TRVs for Canadian entry)
