However, if you have found us, rest assured, that should not be a problem. If you have all your paperwork in order and are eligible, we will make sure that you get your student visa in no time. However, the bigger challenge is to make sure that you can survive there on a budget.
Once you go there and step out to buy just about anything, you will start converting your currency to their only to realise how expensive everything is. This is why we have put together a list of all the things that you can do to save money comfortably.
Apply for a Scholarship
If you are a good student, then make sure that you don’t forget to apply for a scholarship. Most universities around the world offer scholarships and have different criteria to make them available. Speak to your counsellor at Rao Consultants to ensure that you are well informed about all the scholarship programs and how you can apply for them.
There are also many third parties (apart from the university) who make student scholarships available. You can try to reach out to them with your documents to be able to take any opportunity that can help you avail a discount on the fees.
Shared Apartment
Accommodation is something that happens to be one of the most expensive things for a student studying overseas. This is why before you actually go and join your university, you should look out for the different options available for you in terms of shared accommodation.
You can consult with any of our counsellors allotted to you so that they can check out any and all options available for you. Sometimes, living in the college dorm is the cheapest option because you can save money on transportation to the college as well.
Seek out students discounts
Considering the fact that you are a student, it should be easy for you to avail a student discount on many things there like movies, dining etc. All you need to do is provide your student ID and ask for a discount. You will find that you can end up saving a lot of money this way.
Student discount on Health care
When you leave India to study in a different country you will have to provide proof of health insurance. However, in case you find a cheaper alternative that offers more or less similar coverage out there, you can definitely go for it. Many institutes offer student discount on health care as well. So, don’t forget to enquire about it. Remember to seek assistance from our counsellors for the same. They can guide you in the right direction for this.
Start a bank account
When in a different country, it is useful to open a bank account in any of their local banks. This will help you keep your money safely and prevent you from bearing any additional conversion costs that might be levied when converted from Indian Banks. Many banks abroad offer zero balance accounts for students. You can speak to your friends at the college or seek assistance from a professor or neighbour once there.
Get a job
Most countries allow students to work for at least 20 hours per week. This means that you can take up a part time job to ensure that you can get a stable weekly income for yourself. This income will help you sustain yourself and make it absolutely easy for you to go about your day to day life without any worries.
Make sure that you get your earning from this job deposited in your local bank account so that your money is always safe and protected and you can use it whenever you like without having to worry about carrying it.
On the whole, it is important that you are very thrifty when you stay there. The initial few months will be a little difficult no matter how hard you try, however, don’t lose hope. Once you catch the rhythm of the lifestyle there and have a comfortable knowledge of what your monthly expenditure looks like, you will be able to save money without any problems.
Remember that how you live your life is entirely in your hands. Since you are going there to study so that you can bring about some major lifestyle changes, make sure that you absorb as much as you can from the new land and study hard. All the best!
