Good news for all international students who have an active study permit for Canada in 2020! Canada has stretched its travel exemptions for international students. The Canadian government has been doing all possible to make the state comfortable for the international students ever since the pandemic activated, and this news came as a massive relief for numerous students.
Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) can receive international students who aren’t presently in Canada, and who have a learning permit, or who have been approved for one. Not only that, Canada has planned to remain rising immigration stages beyond 2020, despite travel restrictions and condensed numbers of new permanent residents.
What is Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs)?
A designated learning institution abbreviated as DLI is a school permitted by a provincial or territorial rule to host global students.
What is the AIP stage 2 study Visa?
Approval-In-Principle (AIP) Study Visa is Canada’s innovative and provisional study visa process, which is distributed into two steps. On completing the first stage, you will obtain Approval-In-Principle, which allows you to hunt your Canadian teaching online from your home.
Precisely, AIP Stage 2 is a permissibility phase in which you have to submit the official papers to acquire the full Study Permit, after that you can travel to Canada as the legal restrictions are elevated. To obtain the Canadian study visa, you need to clear both the stages successfully.
Who can enter Canada via AIP stage 2?
Students who are already living in Canada and those who have sanctioned study permits are allowed to restart their higher education in Canada. The government has a complete list of approved DLIs and will also update as more available. According to the IRCC, students whose files are complete will be given high priority.
What do you need to submit?
In order to clear AIP stage 2, you need to submit the following documents:
Immigration medical examination
Security-Police certificates
Biometrics
Any other document if essential
Biometrics Exemptions:
According to IRCC, a provisional biometrics exemption for transitory residence candidates from within Canada till further announcement. You can qualify for the temporary exemption if you are applying for one of the following:
An extension of a work permit
A new work permit
An extension of a study permit
A new study permit
A visitor visa
A visitor record to permit you to stay in Canada as a transient resident
Restoration (extension) of temporary resident status
A temporary resident permit
Biometrics for candidates outside Canada:
If the nearby location to you is closed, you will receive an automatic extension of time to give your biometrics. You need not to provide your biometrics until the sites start offering again. This relates to you, even if the biometrics instruction letter (BIL) shows you have 30 or 90 days. You also don’t need to interact with IRCC for this extension, and you don’t need a new BIL to make another appointment. To show proof of payment, bring your original BIL to your new appointment.
Important notes:
If you have not submitted your application yet, do not pay the biometrics fee even if the system asks you to pay for it.
If you have a pending application for which you have paid the biometrics fee, you do not need to provide biometrics and will receive a refund of your application.
Your safety is a high priority in Canada:
In order to take global students, DLIs are required to have a coronavirus pandemic readiness plan permitted by respective territory or province. The plan should express how they achieve the mandatory quarantine period for students, including arrangements for transportation to the student’s quarantine location. A quarantine plan is compulsory for all international students and their family associates arriving in Canada. According to IRCC, all international students need to quarantine for 14 days when they arrive in Canada.
Your family members can join you!
Your immediate family members may also eligible to come with you to Canada, as long as your reason for travel is crucial, such as getting established in Canada to support your study program. In this case, your immediate family includes a parent or legal guardian, spouses and common-law partners, dependents, or if the student is under the age of 18.
Significance of your visit:
Your visit to Canada will be measured significant if you have all of the official papers and your DLI is on the official list. You have to demonstrate your eligibility through a legal study permit or a letter of introduction. As a student, your visit to Canada won’t be considered significant if:
Your education program has been canceled or postponed
You are entering Canada for any other reason than to study
Will it affect your work permit after Post Graduation?
No! Your period of post-study work permit will not be affected, in case you have submitted an education permit application, and if a minimum of 50 percent of the program is finished in Canada. After completing your study in Canada, you can apply for a work permit for up to 3 years. During this time, you may also apply for permanent residency i.e. Canada PR.
If your study permit expires when you are outside Canada?
In case your study permit expires while you are outside Canada, you need to apply for a new study permit, not an extension. You can only initiate a new program after you have been sanctioned for a new study permit. To avoid applying for a new study permit, make sure your study permit is valid for the duration of your program.
Why Canada is the first choice among international students?
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Canada starts pulling international students back. Canada has been helping international students in numerous ways. By opening up the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, Canada delivers beneficiaries $2,000 per month. Several Canadian universities are also opening their education services. The country increasing the number of working hours permitted from 20 to 40 for certain professions. These are some of the reasons why Canada is most popular among international students amid the pandemic.
Conclusion:
International students are strong-minded to study in Canada despite travel limitations caused by the coronavirus pandemic. As a student, you need to clear both the stages AIP-1 and AIP2 successfully, to get your study permit in Canada. There are certain safety norms along with providing legal documents that you have to present while applying for a visa. You may also apply for Canada PR after successfully completed your education in the designated university.

With a very low crime rate, extraordinary hospitality, and excellent quality of life, Canada is a safe country to study and live. 3 Canadian cities making to the Global Liveability Index 2019 list of 10 most liveable cities in the world corroborate the afore-mentioned statement.
Scenic natural beauty, sightseeing, and outdoor activities further tilt the scales in favour of Canada while considering an overseas study destination.
Due to Covid-19, the world economy has been operating like an ECG report of a living person. With the global financial system in shambles, international students world over kept a hawk-eye on the manner in which the various hubs of international education dealt with this unprecedented crisis. The popularity of Canada amongst overseas students was expected to see a steep decline post the pandemic. However, thanks to the commendable and exemplary management of the chaotic situation by the Canadian government and their encouraging measures for foreign students, Canada still stands out as one of the academic hotspots for international students. They found Canada performing really well on the parameters of response to Covid-19, simultaneous efforts towards reviving the economy as well as ensuring the safety of Canadian citizens, and addressing the concerns for international students through its relatively lesser prohibitive travel restrictions. Some of the measures undertaken by the country for the assistance of international students are mentioned below.
Quebec’s immigration ministry has approved the stay of overseas students until December 2020. It is only for those students whose Quebec Acceptance Certificate will expire between 30th April 2020 and 31st December 2020. Such students have to apply to the federal government for extension of their study permit. Upon acceptance, students can reside till December 2020 without any extra payment for completing their remaining courses that came to an abrupt halt due to Covid-19.
Moreover, while laying down the international travel restrictions from 18th March 2020, the Canadian government has permitted entry of international students whose arrival to the country was approved before the lockdown date but were yet to turn up in the country. After landing at the airport, they have to go through a complete health check-up and those who report negative for Covid-19 would be allowed to enter after two weeks isolation and those who would show even mild symptoms of the pandemic had to return back. This announcement has been a silver lining for the aspiring students to march ahead with their dream of studying at a Canadian institute.
The student visa holders that are engaged in the delivery of essential services have been exempted from the restrictions of 20 working hours per week while studying, till 31st August 2020. This exemption has resulted in twin benefits of Canadian citizens receiving an uninterrupted supply of their basic necessities and the healthcare students gaining valuable hands-on experience.
Through its schemes of Canada Emergency Student Benefit (CESB) and Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) Canada has strived to provide adequate financial assistance to the eligible international students whose employment has been impacted by the coronavirus. The student is eligible for one of the benefits and no student can claim benefits under both the schemes.
Students who have study permits but are unable to reach Canada for full-time learning can complete a portion of their program through online mode. The good news is that online learning will be counted in the course duration for giving Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
Though all the above-stated measures and benefits cannot replicate the opportunity of timely full-time campus learning but will be definitely a cornerstone in fulfilling several of the student’s aspirations of studying in Canada.
